It gets down to read the manual. That solved everything for me. Adjust the magazine tabs as needed and this is a winner. Good looking, accurate and reliable. 2,500 rounds through it so far. Luv it!

Good little gun

I''ve had my 22 Nickel finish for a couple of years. It''s been a lot of fun to shoot. I felt the pain once of the January post who says his keeps jamming. I have found that YOU MUST use CCI-anything else jams. CCI has never jammed in over a year of using it in that gun. I don''t think that the other manufacturers load their .22s hot enough for the Phoenix 22. Try it-hope it helps.

I purchased a HP22A at the Great Southern Gun and Knife show. I love this little pistol. Sweet to shoot and acurate at 10 yards. Great for pinking. I carry it in my pickup for personal protection. My ammunition is 22 long rifle hollow points. It does the job.

I bought my HP22 15 years ago for $50 at a local gun store. Its great for plinking and is reliable. Best $50 ive spent. Im sure with a CCI round hollow piont it would also be a good defense gun.

I have several firearms, and I must say that this product exceeded my expectations dramatically. I really respect this firearm, for its constant performance. The price as well is extremely reasonable and well worth the price and also the warranty it awesome if you ever have to use it. Over all great little firearm, I would definitely purchase another one just to have one more in my gun safe...

Great pistol for the money! Small enough to carry anywhere and with a little "tweeking" the sights, you have a very accurate "little buddy" that will not let you down. I have only had one jam in over 100 firings; thus not a perfect 5 star rating. However, I would go as far as 4 1/2 stars. Keep up the great work Phoenix Arms!

After doing much research I ordered this pistol. It is simply a great value for the money. Only one FTF in 50 rounds and I attribute that to ''break in''.
I did make a few minor modifications so that the magazine can be removed and the slide locked back.
Since this gun doen not hold the slide open after the last round I use a Super Colibri as the last round to keep the fireing pin from stricking the barrel.
I have many handguns, but consider this to be my favorite.

I''m pretty sure that this pistol is clearly the best in it''s price range, followed closely by the High-Point line. It is accurate and points easily, though the plentiful safety features are a bit much for me. Handy size, light weight and low cost are pluses. I have only fired about 150 rnds. thru mine, and have had no misfires. I did swab it out and relube it after the first 50 rnds, and the manual says to use standard velocity ammo, which I was sure to do. [ american eagle 40 gr. ]
I like it, but will limit it''s use to plinking, not CC.

I did not expect much when I received my hp22a. Upon opening the box, I was immediately surprised. The fit and finish looked to be good for the price. It''s by no means an unattractive gun, even with the cheapish looking matte black finish. The multiple safeties are a bit much, but do not keep you from being able to shoot the gun, and if you can''t get used to them, they are easy to modify so that they work in a more conventional method. No last round slide like, which is no biggie at this size and price. It is a fairly heavy gun despite its size. The trigger pull is decent right out of the box, with a lot of pre-travel, a sizeable but not unduly excessive sear engagement distance, and almost no over-travel. I expect pull weight is around 4 lbs and it is fairly smooth. It will likely get a little lighter and a lot smoother from use, as mine has less than 200 rounds through it ]I just got it today[and it has already started to improve. Reliability has been perfect so far, with 4 different brands of ammo, including hp and lrd of 36 and 40 grains. The sights are very good for a pocket pistol and are adjustable, and I was able to shoot 1.5 10-shot groups at 10 meters offhand after getting used to the trigger, and I know that I had a couple user-induced fliers in every group that made the groups much larger. Fixed barrel .22''s tend to be pretty accurate, and this gun is no exception. For the price it is absolutely a 5-star gun, but I gave it a 4 because it seems to me that a Kimber for this price is a true 5, so this must be a 4. Overall an excellent first auto for a new shooter, or the recoil sensitive. It is a little larger and much heavier than my Kel-Tec p32, but it is close enough that I think it will be the ideal training weapon for a pocket defense gun. Please do not use this gun for self-defense unless you literally have no other choices, though. It''s better than harsh words, or throwing rocks, but the reliability of rimfire ammo, combined with it''s very marginal pistol ballistics pretty much makes it the worst choice possible for self-defense. Great gun at a great price. Mine will not go to the tackle box duty as quickly as I originally thought.

I belong to a local gun club so i go shooting almost every weekend at least twice a month, I bring this little gun every time and at least shoot 250rds out of it most often i shoot 500rds of 22lr a trip, I have shot over 12,000 rounds through my hp22a deluxe range kit and have probably shot a 70-30 split between the 3 barrel so 9,000+ out of the 3 and 3,000+ out of the five barrel, I do have a new set of 3 and 5 barrels but don''t use them because i can still hit clay pidgeons at 50yds with the 3 barrel on a rest and standing with the 5 barrel. so if you clean your gun and lube the barrel it will treat you right. Also i never use anything but FMJ ammo and also if you want the gun to cycle dependably and go bang 99 of the time use HV ammo I use remington vipers/yellowjackets 36gr 1450fps fmj/hp or Aguila supermax 30gr 1750fps and when I conceal carry this instead of my 9mm I use CCI 32gr Segmented HP 1650fps rounds and I carry 4 mags and it still is lighter than just my 9mm loaded, the only time I get FTF''s is when the primer on the rimfire round doesnt go, but but the rounds ALWAYS FIRE ON THE SECOND STRIKE, and ftf''s are very rare maybe 1 in a couple hundred rounds, this gun has a wide hard hitting firing pin, even after 10,000 plus rounds. And Any parts you want to replace are cheap and come from pheonix arms, and the lifetime warranty is nice to have

It is a great little gun and fun to shoot. There are some flaws like ther is no last round open check so you have to count every round or have a snap cap on bottom. Then there are a couple of safty''s that are a pain, but other than that it shoots very well i had 2 jams out of 150 rounds shooting federal ammo. If you get the chance pick one up you wont be disapointed

I grew up hunting, shooting only rifles and shotguns. I had very little experience with pistols. I wanted an entry level pistol that both myself and my wife would feel comfortable learning with. I also didn''t want to spend $150 for a box of 500 rounds while I am just learning. This .22 is a great value for a little plinker. I''ve put 500 rounds of CCI Blazer through it, with only one FTF. No FTF with Remington HPs. This gun DOES NOT like Federal though. I had a persistant problem feeding new rounds with that type of ammo. This last visit to the range, I put 60 out of 60 rounds center mass at 15 yards.

I wanted a plinking and target gun I could kick around the range with, so I didn''t have to take my S&W Model 41 out. I have owned numerous .22 pistols, and all had glitches I didn''t like, or just plain couldn''t hold a group. My last was a Walther .22 that was nearly 3 times the cost of the Phoenix, and it misfired and jammed all the time. I gave up on it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Phoenix .22, and most of all, the nice trigger pull ]though not that of a full target pistol, it is very good[. I think with a little work, it could be even snappier, but why bother? It''s a plinking gun.
So I took it to the range, and found I could easily shoot 6 groups at 20 yards, right out of the box with the tiny 3 barrel. I ordered the 5 barrel, thinking it might improve accuracy even more, but I haven''t had a chance to test it yet.
The gun fired about 9 to the right and highbeyond what the sights would allow adjustment for. That''s one reason I bought the longer barrel, thinking it might shoot closer to where I''m aiming it. It is a joy to shoot, and you will definitely get more mileage and fun out of the optional 10 shot magazine because you won''t have to reload it as often. I highly recommend this handgun.

1st one worked flawlessly but my son said he loved the little thing so merry x mass to him. I put about 500 new rds in it. Then pulled out about 30 rds of trash old and dented, one was even bent. I wanted to test it, It never stopped banging. It was ment to train my wife and 15 yr old doughter. So I got another one. Its in Ill pick it up tomorrow, Hope it works like the 1st one. We will see. I carry a Kel-Tec p32 on me and keep 38 rev next to the bed. I would have trusted that little Phoenix 22 to save my butt. Hope my son never needs to protect his home with it, but if needed I think it would do the job. Its not big but I wouldnt want to get shot with it.

Deep conceal or Ladies gun
By Lady
Review Date: 12/06/2009
Rating:
I have purchased 4 of these for ladies. It is a superb purse gun and is thin enuf for pocket concealment. It is my deep conceal and I carry it in the back pocket or front in a leather slab that has the gun outline relieved. I have shot everything in this little wonder and it has yet to malfunction or fail to feed.
The barrel attaches at the rear by slipping over a thin rod/pin. There is absolutely no play in the mounted barrel. After 50 boxes mine is still as tight as if it were welded to the frame. I can easily see where this point would wear rapidly although mine shows no sign. Point is that if you hang a longer barrel out there the leverage/load at that pin will increase dramatically. This thing is very accurate at 30 ft and more and its intended range is less than that. I teach my ladies to shoot without using the sight...point and shoot. All of them can hit a Pepsi can on a bank at 20 feet from the hip with one out of three shots and the other two scare the crap out of that can.
The take down lever was difficult to use on three of the guns. I took a stone to the surfaces of the little sliding part and all is well. You will see what has to be done. The fitment is good but a trifle snug in every area and that is very good.
Strongly endorsed,
John

Went to range. Ran about 200 rounds through it.
Had a lot of FTE''''s, etc. Took home and field
stripped it..Found a tiny defect in ejector, may
not be cause. Reassembled without incident after
following directions in manual.]ie.. use 3 inch
barrel to compress spring[.
FTE''''s may have been bad ammo. some old Federal I
have had about 5 years. I had at least one confirmed
dud ]firing pin did indent the shell rim[.
Will try again.. maybe it needs some cycling.
No cracking or other noticeable excess wear.
